Our shop

The Cotswold Book Room has been an independent, family-run business in Wotton-under-Edge for more than 70 years. In early 2020 we were fortunate enough to be able to take on this beautiful shop. The shop is now run by us, Gideon and Cathy York, with help from a small team of booksellers. We love books and the joy they can bring to people. We’re always happy to talk books and help you find your next read, or chose a really lovely book for a gift.

When are you open?

Every day 9am-5pm, except Sundays when we have a day off.

How can I pay?

We accept card, cash, cheque, along with National Book Tokens and our own shop tokens. We can accept book tokens over the phone and can invoice for payment of delivered or posted books.

I can’t get to you, will you deliver?

Of course! We offer free local delivery. For those further afield we post using Royal Mail, cost price. Just let us know you would like this when you order.

I want to arrange a present for someone in the town can you help?

We’d be delighted to help, it’s one of our favourite offerings. Contact us and tell us which book/s you would like. We will gift wrap them for free and deliver them. We can include a card (£2.50), and we will send you an invoice for payment.

Is your shop COVID safe?

We continue to encourage use of hand sanitiser and mask wearing in our shop for the time being.

Can I access your shop easily?

Our shop has 3 steps up to the front door, this does limit access for wheelchair users for which we are really sorry. We will bring books out to you for you to browse and we can take payment from there too.

We are happy to help lift pushchairs in and out of the shop and there is plenty of room inside for manoeuvre.

There are grab handles around the door frame for those who need a little extra reassurance whilst tackling the steps.

Can I buy online?

Our Inspire Me page has a carefully curated selection of books to buy at the click of a button, but if nothing there takes your fancy then tell us what books you're thinking of via the Order Books page. We'll get back to you quickly and make sure the books you want are coming your way asap.

How do I know what you have in stock?

We have a carefully curated range of books. We choose the very best, and try to stock books we think you will love, and some you may never have heard of. If we don’t have the book in stock that you want, then we have a highly efficient ordering system meaning your request will often appear in the shop the following day! If you want to know if we have a particular book then get in touch with us via the ‘Order Books’ button and we’ll get back to you.
