We Love Books - Wotton Reading Festival

28 June 2026, 14.00 – 16.00

Come and join us for our very first reading festival in Wotton!

Bring your book, some friends and a picnic and enjoy a few hours of reading on the beautiful British School field.

We have some other fun reading activities on offer:

  • Storytime trail – come and listen to a different story at each of our story stations. Pick up your story trail card and complete the trail by getting your card stamped after listening to each story.
  • Refreshments – including cake, provided by the wonderful Read With Me, all monies taken will go back into funding their wonderful work of improving literacy levels in schools.
  • Book Club showcase – want to know a bit more about Book Clubs? Come and meet some of our local book club members and find out what they have been reading. Gideon will be there chatting about our monthly Cheese, Wine and Book Club, with free tasters of L’affinage cheese and his wine choices.
  • Art table – come and make a bookmark or write and illustrate a book review! This all counts towards cubs and brownie reading badges.
  • Curious Kids Science Club – run by the wonderful Sophie Contractor, with a dinosaur sensory tray and plenty of dino books to read.

This year, 2026, is the National Year of Reading!

The aim of the National Year of Reading is to encourage reading for pleasure and foster a love of books. We may be biased, but we think there’s nothing better than disappearing into a story or seeking out some information about a subject that interests us in the comforting pages of a book.

What’s important to remember is that there’s no such thing as “wrong” or “bad” reading. If you’re interested in something, pick up a book about it. It could be a picture book, manga, a cook book, a novel, a fact book or a magazine! And, listening to a book has all the same benefits as reading a book, so if you prefer to listen, or if you mix listening with reading, that’s great too!

Not only can reading be fun and interesting, but it actually impacts our mental health too – just 6 minutes of reading can lower stress levels by 68%!

So, come along on 28 June with your reading or listening material and enjoy the act of reading surrounded by other readers in the beautiful grounds of the British School.
